info

It was inevitable that Honda, anxious to breath more life into their fairly radical V-twin shaft drive, launched five years earlier, ‘stretched’ the capacity of the CX500 to 650cc, giving the machine the power it needed, especially with the fearsome ‘Turbo’ model, already sold earlier in 500 form, to push along this models considerable weight, of close to 230kg.

The 650 Turbo was also fitted with CFI fuel injection, unusual for 1983. The riding experience, as with any turbo bike of that time was a little like a light switch, on or off!

Other spin-off models in the CX650 range were more successful in North America than Europe, Europe, as now preferred the big four cylinder super bikes than what many considered to be these oddball V-twins. But the touring Silver Wings sold well especially in Canada, where they are still regarded in high esteem today.
