Kawasaki EX500 information

Kawasaki EX500

This is one of Kawasaki’s most enduring models introduced in 1987 ran on more or less unchanged to 1993, when a re-styling face lift and other mechanical modification were specified, this model was generally known as the Ninja 500.

In 1997, another update was announced with different gearing, 17” wheels replacing the 16” variety, larger disc brakes and a new digital ignition system, this model now being referred to as the Ninja 500 R.

The model has always been the quickest of the 500 twin cylinder middleweight sports machines, with 50.2bhp @ 9250rpm it was able to cover a standing quarter mile in just 12.73 seconds, this used to be 750cc territory back in the 1970’s!

The liquid cooled engine has remained more or less unchanged throughout it’s production, demonstrating how right it was when launched over 20 years ago!
