Yamaha’s first real stab at the new ‘Sports Bike’ market, pioneered by the Kawasaki GPZ 1100. Despite it’s five valve cylinder head, it really did not come close on performance giving ‘only’ 77 BHP @ 9500 rpm. What it did have though was superb handling, and good build quality, and with 71nm of torque at just 6500rpm was a user friendly package that could be used for touring as well as fast ‘sports bike’ riding.
