Kawasaki ER250 information
More commonly referred to as the GPZ 250 when launched in 1983, the parallel twin single overhead camshaft engine gave out a healthy 33bhp, and with a dry weight of 143kg could push the machine to well over 90mph.
Main differences were the methods of final drive, the 1983 ER250 A model has a conventional chain, the ER250 B model has a low maintenance, but power sapping belt drive system.
Styling was typically ‘GPZ’ and the models, particularly in ‘Green Meanie’ colours sold well off the back of their larger siblings. The ‘Unitrak’ rear suspension was also a feature on larger Kawasaki’s of the period, and helped ensure a fine handling package, keeping rapid two strokes like the Suzuki X7 at least a little honest! The X7’s superiority must have galled Kawasaki, who with the A1 Samurai from nearly 15 years earlier was producing the groundbreaking fast but fragile 250’s, capable of toping 100mph in the right hands!
