Announced in 2002, with an engine based, albeit radically revised, on the now retired TL1000, the 1000 V-Strom long distance touring/adventure weighed in at a remarkably svelte 207kg. Combine this with its 996cc 90 degree V-Twin engine completely remapped for mid range grunt, but still producing 98hp, made an interesting ride, and able to hold it’s own with many pure sports machines.
The skittish handling of it’s TL1000 predecessor was banished from this model, with a brand new chassis and more relaxed head angle, in keeping with it’s touring credentials.
Remarkably light and compact for a large V-twin, the DL1000 V-Strom has earned a reputation for fine handling, strong performance, and with a large capacity 5.8 Gal fuel tank makes a superb choice for long distance riding.
