Buy the next type, 11H-12438-10 from Yamaha. Its the same type, but les price. Same model..

Buyer beware - the metal cup does not fit older models

Beware! The metal cup on this seal is a slightly larger diameter than the original part. It will not fit 1978-80 models. Not CMSNL's fault, Honda changed the design. It will fit 1981 and upwards.
Do a google search for "cx500 mech seal shep" and you will find a workaround for this.

The part of the seal to enter rear engine housing had a circumfrance a little too large for housing, so bent when trying to install, i cut my loses & reinstalled the old one, since the new part is now damaged, I am sur CMS would say it was my fault, so have lost out on payment (expensive) & will say no more

Heat the casing

You must heat the casing to 100deg cel to fit the mechanicel seal, it will NOT fit any other way being that you must seal steel against steel so there is not way to cool or hammer it in, do as the manual says else you will damage it.
