Subject: SS50 1977 five speed gearbox

I am renovating a 1977 5 speed disc brake SS50. I have been able to get most of the parts I need but am finding a great deal of difficulty sourcing a replacement low gear 36 teeth pinion. They are no longer available. Anyone any idea where I might get one, or in the final analysis are they repairable, and where? Thank you for any help you may be able to give me. David

Hi David!

Do you have the partnumber? There are several resources to track down such an item.

I don't think that repairing would do any good.

Yes I think your right, repair was just a desperate hope. The part number is 23421 051 600. Unfortunately CMSNL and David Silver in the UK do not have this part and they say it is unavailable. Do you know of any other potential supplier? Any help appreciated thanks, and thanks for your interest, David

I did query google for your partnumber. It seems that there is a Russian website that still enlists this item. (search on 23421051600).
I doubt that they have it, but you can always try.

In case that doesn't work, you might want to revisit the idea of repairing the teeth. emoticon Here are some interesting links:

- Small gears not applicable , but interesting anyway.
- Use a gear repair service

Good luck!
