With a an over-square 49mm x 46mm bore and stroke this willing overhead valve engine put out a healthy 6.5bhp @ 8500rpm when the C200 Benly 90 as it was known in Japan was launched in 1963. The CA200 came a year later more or less identical to the earlier model. The all iron engine (cylinder & cylinder head) was easy to work on, although this was more or less irrelevant, as apart from changing the oil and checking tappet clearances little else was required, the reliability being almost unbelievable for such a high revving engine, by the standards of that time.
These sold well to the commuter market of Europe, their reliability only outdone by their frugal use of petrol.
This handsome machine with durable chrome tank panels, comfortable knee grips and extremely exotic looking tank badges followed all the styling cues from Honda’s larger and smaller sporting models, and inline with other similar Honda’s has become a desirable classic for Honda aficionados!
