With the American motorcycle enthusiasts requesting more power from the 250cc C70 model, Honda quickly followed in the same year, 1957, with a 305cc version, the bore and stroke increased from the square 54mm x 54mm to an over square 60mm x 57mm this increased power markedly, with little weight gain to an impressive 21bhp @ 7200rpm.
This model, designed by Honda, closely followed the single overhead camshaft twin cylinder format pioneered by German NSU company, even the pressed steal chassis was similar, as was the leading link suspension.
Sohichiro Honda’s tour of the major European motorcycle manufacturers, in Italy, Germany and Great Britain in the middle 1950’s, clearly led to NSU making more impact on Honda’s engineering mind set, the logic of overhead cam valve operation holding particular appeal.
